Presidents of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to Meet Soon

ASTANA, Feb 3 (THE GLOBE)

Soon President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev and Turkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov will meet. The Turkmen Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Kazakhstan Halnazar Agakhanov announced that at his meeting with the deputy of the Prime Minister Danial Akhmetov.

Akhmetov received the ambassador, as the term of his diplomatic authority had expired.

Agakhanov did not mention when and where the presidents� supposed meeting would be held. However, he said that during the meeting they are to sign a number of bilateral agreements, in particular for the economic and cultural cooperation up to 2010.

The Turkmen diplomat said that the annual consumable turnover between the two countries that now is about US$ 70 million, is not satisfactory. According to Agakhanov, since the time when the country became independent (1991), Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have concluded over 50 different agreements.

In his own turn, Akhmetov thanked the ambassador for his efforts to strengthen the Kazakhstani-Turkmen relations.


Kazakh National Security Council Outlines Military Doctrine.

Kazakh National Security Council held a special session yesterday, February 2, at which the Kazakh National Military Doctrine was defined. Chairman of the Kazakh National Security Council, Presidential Aide, Chairman of the Kazakh Anti-Corruption State Committee - Marat Tazhin told journalists after the Council�s session that next year financial allocations for the Kazakh Military and Defense Sector would be increased to 30 per cent. He also said that such important issues as anti-terrorism and anti- extremism policies were discussed at the Council�s session as well. The Doctrine�s draft will be discussed at the Kazakh Parliament and then sent to Kazakh president for signature Marat Tazhin also added that Uzbek-Kazakh borders would not be demarcated from either side until special joint Kazakh-Uzbek commission made a final conclusion.
